Christian Vigilante Terrorism

It's stories like the recent murder of George Tiller that leave little credibility for the Pro-Life movement.

And he was killed in a Lutheran church, a member of the ELCA.

Religionists into torture?

Radley Balko linked to an article today on a study by the Pew Research Center that found religious people find torture more justifiable than non-religious people.
White evangelical Protestants were the religious group most likely to say torture is often or sometimes justified -- more than six in 10 supported it. People unaffiliated with any religious organization were least likely to back it. Only four in 10 of them did. [Link]

What's up with that?

Desmond Tutu

It was nice that the Anglican Church named Desmond Tutu the first black Archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa in 1986, but calling him a primate is just offensive.

Benny puts his cards on the table

Pope Benedict criticized the rise of secularism (you know, the inclusive, pluralistic and tolerant aspect of society) in a Good Friday sermon this weekend. Some excerpts:
'Values and norms that held societies together and drew people to higher ideals are laughed at and thrown overboard. Jesus continues to be ridiculed.'

Like slavery. NEXT.
''We are shocked to see to what levels of brutality human beings can sink.'

Like child molestation. Anything else?
He also condemned the oppression of women, saying there were 'many societies in the world where women fail to receive a fair deal.'

Yeah! Like institutions where women aren't allowed to hold any positions of power whatsoever...

And finally, he exposed what the Catholic church, and to a large extent religion, is all about:
'May we never question ... serious things in life like a cynic,' he added.

Yep, never question anything. Just do whatever the former nazi with the sweet red shoes tells you.

Embarrassing

A Catholic Cardinal and Archbishop of Chicago has referred to Notre Dame's invitation to Barack Obama to speak at their commencement ceremony in May an embarrassment.
"Whatever else is clear, it is clear that Notre Dame didn't understand what it means to be Catholic when they issued this invitation."

Perhaps some Catholics want to take back what it means to be Catholic from a bunch of rich white male virgins. And I think it's safe to say that sexual abuse and absurd doctrines on things like birth control bring the Catholic Church far more embarrassment than having a popular president speak at Notre Dame.

Update

Total number of emails I've received in response to my Broadcaster article: zero.

I guess that means everyone agrees with me, right?

Maybe it's because no one can access it online!

Good thing...

...the new format of the broadcaster is "pdf friendly." The CLC website has yet to upload the last newsletter. The most recent/only one they have up there is from November.
